Your home is impacting your mood!

So much of our lives are outside of our control, but your own space can offer you comfort, calm and lift your mood!

How your environment influences your mood

We are in physical contact with the spaces where we live and work, so by extension the textures we interact with regularly affect the way that we feel. This is central to the Tropicasa philosophy and is the big reason why this design style is so soothing, relaxing and stress-reducing.

Incorporating organic, natural textures into our homes creates a feeling of safety and authenticity, which will help improve your connections with other people in the space as well as yourself.

When we're feeling safe, calm and relaxed, it is easier to approach communication with others and ourselves from a place of curiosity and gentleness, instead of being reactive because our home environment is subconsciously increasing our stress levels.

3 interior design tips to improve your mental health and mood at home (or in any space!)

1 - SUNLIGHT! A sunlight-drenched room is a thing of joy! Sunlight helps your brain release serotonin, which boosts your mood and helps you feel calm and focused. Maximise the amount of natural light in your space and embrace your sunny disposition!

2 - SPACIOUSNESS. Having crowded furniture and clutter in a space causes you to feel anxious and suffocated. Clutter destroys calm, so anything you don't love and anything you haven't used in a year should probably be removed. It is important to have the right balance of visually engaging elements and spaciousness in a room - this balance will help us feel calm and uplifted!

3 - ART & COLOUR! You already know how I feel about these! But I just wanted to reassure you that if you're wondering if it is worth spending money on an artwork that you love, the answer is YES! The most impactful additions to my space were two giant prints by Jai Vasicek, they were a very conscious spending of what was a large sum of money to me at the time, but every single time I walked into my room and saw them, or sat working near them, they infused me with a beautiful sense of inspiration and calm.

2 Tropicasa design elements I LOVE

1 - Fresh, brightly coloured flowers! Show yourself that you deserve life and beauty in your space and bring nature inside with a lush bunch of flowers, they'll make you feel great every time you see them.

2 - Use the power of scent to boost your mood at home, it's an incredibly powerful tool to affect the mood and ambience of a room. We can use it to increase alertness, evoke nostalgia and joy, reduce stress and relieve anxiety (think of walking into an Aesop shop)! I love fragrances like citrus, peppermint and lavender.

1 FUN LIFE UPDATE:

A group of my best friends from Melbourne came out to visit at the end of September and we had such a great time hanging out, snorkelling, eating delicious food and enjoying sunsets together! I'm back on my own again now, which I thought would be a struggle but I'm actually quite enjoying... is this my inner introvert coming out?! I'm leaving Gili Air today and heading back to Bali.

Don't forget to book your free, 15 minute discovery call to see how we can transform your home into a space that has a positive effect on your mental health and helps you be your most authentic self!

With sunlight and warmth,

Rae x
